Scarlet Sky Press is a Manitoba based publisher of literary and trade prairie fiction. Founded in 2024, we strive to give voice to rural writers, particularly new writers. Recognizing a niche often overlooked by traditional publishers, we hope to publish classic prairie novels similar in tone to Canadian icons Margaret Laurence, Sinclair Ross and W. O. Mitchell, but with a 21st century perspective. Our model is unique. Selected authors can choose the traditional publishing path or our partnership model where authors have greater control and more profitable royalty rates. Contact us for more information.
Coming Soon
Our first title, On Veil Creek, is coming this fall. Written by Gaylene Dutchyshen, the novel delves into the lives of young siblings, Tom and Marissa Nychuk, following a devastating family tragedy.
Submission Guidelines
Scarlet Sky Press seeks writers with less than two traditionally published titles. We focus on historical fiction, family sagas, and domestic dramas depicting the realistic, everyday lives of middle and lower class people. Plots must feature rural settings with intriguing plots, a strong sense of place and richly developed characters.
We do not accept non-fiction or formulaic genre fiction, poetry, short story collections, children's books, YA, sci-fi, fantasy, erotica or graphic novels.
Submissions open on November 1, 2024 and close on February 1, 2025. Anything sent before or after those dates will not be considered. Your submission must include a cover letter with author bio, a one-page synopsis, and the first thirty pages of your manuscript. Attach as three separate files within one email and send to submissions@scarletskypress.ca. We will try to respond by email within two months. We will not respond to email queries or discuss submissions before we contact you.
